I just noticed that Apple released a Supplier Responsibility Report. It’s just the first step, as it doesn’t get into raw materials and such, but it’s still very interesting.
As far as I know, it’s the most comprehensive report of this type thus far. Hold onto that thought, while remembering that it’s not a full supply-chain audit, and noticing this other fact - that only about 75% of their practices are in compliance [a number I pulled by skimming the document].
So hold on, of all Fortune 500 Companies, Apple’s currently doing the best with corporate social responsibility [at least by street cred], and of just in the link directly below them, only three fourths of their suppliers are meeting compliance [and who’s to say that compliance is even an acceptable standard]?
This isn’t in variance with my expectations, but it’s still very sad.
